Brain Injury and Traumatic Brain Injury Lawyers
M. Angela Dentice represents individuals who have sustained a brain injury, including a traumatic brain injury and post traumatic concussion. Our staff has worked with some of the leading experts in the area of TBI (traumatic brain injury). These include neurologists, neuropsychologists, life care planners and vocational counselors from around the United States.
According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) over 1.4 million people sustain a TBI each year in the United States. Of this number 28% are caused by falls and 20% are caused by motor-vehicle/traffic crashes. Of those who sustain a traumatic brain injury each year, 50,000 die, 235,000 are hospitalized and 1.1 million are treated and released from the emergency department.
Often, the type of brain injury sustained in a fall or car accident involves diffuse axonal injury. This injury is caused by a rotation of the head when it is struck. The injury occurs because the unmoving brain lags behind the movement of the skull, causing the structures of the brain to tear or sheer on the bony structures of the inside of the skull. The sheering of the tissues prevents normal communication in the brain from occurring. The injury can produce temporary or permanent and widespread brain damage.
The portion of the brain that is often injured as a result of an auto accident or fall is the frontal lobe of the brain. Damage to this area affects the individuals ability to perform executive functioning skills. These skills include the ability to initiate and stop actions, to plan, to change behavior, to anticipate outcomes, and to think abstractly. An individual with brain damage in the frontal lobe may have difficulties, which can become permanent.
Traumatic brain injury can also result in changes in a persons personality and emotions. After the brain injury, the person may appear to those that knew him or her before the injury, to be a completely different person to those who knew her or him before the injury.
Because each persons injuries are unique, Ms. Dentice handles each client in a personal manner. She can give you the personal attention you deserve. If you want personal attention and big results, contact Ms. Dentice today.
